Because the testing process was at least ostensibly blind, it referred to me as “Male Subject 12-027.” After reading through some psychological jargon and boiler plate about methodology as well as some nice things about my intelligence and abilities, I was shocked to read the following statement:

“Male Subject 12-027 shows strong, sublimated tendencies toward sexual submissiveness as well as toward bisexuality. He also gives some evidence of having a significant oral fixation. 12-027 is especially deferential and compliant when faced with strong female authority.”

It went on further on the same theme, but the rest became kind of a blur after that. I’m sure my face was beet red. How could this test have revealed so much and why would they have tested for that? I could only stare at the floor and stammer a weak denial.

“Look at me,” she said.

“If you do what I say here today and agree to some other terms, you’ll not only have the job but you’ll receive a hefty signing bonus plus additional pay — $24,000 above the initial salary offer.,” she said. “First, you have to prove yourself here. You see, Mr. Powers is a busy man. He doesn’t have time right now for relationships — female or male. However, he needs someone who can take care of his needs. Do you understand, Ben?”

I whisper a ‘yes.’

“Speak up,” she said.

“Yes, ma’am.”

“That’s better,” she said. “Now, get up, take off all your clothes, fold them and place them in the chair behind you. OK?”

“Yes, ma’am.”
